Hello, welcome to the university tag!
Recently I have just finished my first year of university and decided to make a blog. I thought this would be a great post for you to get to know me a bit better!
Where do you study?
I study at the University of Sheffield.
What do you study?
As the title of this blog might suggest, I study LLB Law. The length of this course can vary. For me it is either 3 or 4 years depending on whether or not I decide to do a year of studying abroad (which I am hoping to do!).
What year are you in?
I have just finished my first year of university and will be going into second year in September.
Do you live at home or at university?
In term time I live at university and during the holidays I go home. In my first year I lived in halls at Ranmoor which is one of the student villages for students studying at the University of Sheffield.
The picture shown is my first-year bedroom. The tapestry was the best part of my room! See my ‘University Packing list‘ for more useful things to take to university!
In my second year I am going to be in a house which is exciting!
How old are you?
I am 19 years old
What are your 3 university essentials?
- Command Strips
Also, something from home (pictures, blanket, teddy etc.)
What is your favourite meal to cook?
At university I generally want to get cooking out of the way fairly quickly in case someone else wants to cook. Therefore, at university my favourite meal to cook would be a pasta dish.
What is the latest you’ve been to the library?
In first year, I liked to study in my room as my flat was not generally noisy and I had a big desk!
The picture shows only part of the desk, but I will definitely miss my big desk when I move into my house next year.
I did not study in the library very much but when I did the latest I did stay was probably around 10pm.
Ever done an all nighter to finish work?
No, I haven’t
What is your favourite university moment so far?
Throughout university my friends and I go watch the Sheffield Steelers play ice hockey and it is always a really good time.
I think the highlight so far was watching the final of Varsity where the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam competed against each other. The final was an ice hockey match and it was a really great atmosphere!
One piece of advice for a fresher:
Try not to worry (I know this is hard!) but everyone is in the same boat. Always be yourself as there will always be a group of people out there for you if you get involved. Make sure you get involved with events and societies right from the start as everyone will be wanting to make friends and to get to know people at the start.
See my post on ‘What I Wish I Knew Before Studying Law at University‘ for more helpful tips!
Something you worried about for no reason:
I am not a big drinker and I don’t particularly like to go out to a club. I definitely worried about this a lot before going to university, but I definitely had no need to worry. Most of my flat in first year were not that big on drinking which put my mind at ease.
A lot of the people in my flat (which I am living with next year) were a lot like me which meant there was no pressure to drink or go out. Instead we would often go see an ice hockey match or go hiking in the Peak District.
I understand this is not the same for everyone, I definitely got lucky with the flat I was in but there are non-drinking events to get involved with as well. You will definitely find a group of people that suit you!
