Wow! Where to start?
On Monday I got the opportunity to attend Bright Network’s Future Lawyers Top 100 event. I am very thankful for getting the chance to attend this event. I absolutely loved it and cannot recommend it enough!
The event was incredibly insightful and provided the opportunity to grow my network and gain insights that would not be available elsewhere.
Bright Network is a network where students can connect with some of the best companies and find wonderful opportunities. The website provides helpful tips for applications, a range of different events to attend, commercial awareness updates and much more!
Future Lawyers Top 100 networking event
Bright Network put on an event called Future Lawyers Top 100 in London. This is an event that you could apply to on the Bright Network website. It connects the brightest law students with leading commercial law firms.
A quick overview of the day!
First, we had member networking and an introduction to Bright Network.
Then we had alumni success stories and the first panel session on what to expect in commercial law.
Next, we had structured networking. We were all put in small groups and got to meet and speak to every firm that was there. We had 10 minutes with each firm and rotated around the room to speak to everyone.
We then had the second panel session on top tips for obtaining a vacation scheme.
After this we then got the opportunity to open network. This was an opportunity to finish any conversations off or speak to any of the law firms to find out more about them.
Finally, we had an awards ceremony (well done to @lucydoeslaw for winning an award!).
What I took away from the event
The biggest thing I took away from this event was the importance of networking. The alumni success stories at the beginning really puts this into perspective. A great way to network is by going to events like this! Make sure to check out what events Bright Network has coming up.
Another great way to network is social media. LinkedIn is a great way to network (I have just joined).
Networking can enhance applications and provides the opportunity to add a more personal touch which will stand out more.
Furthermore, one of the biggest things I took away from this event was to be yourself! Make sure to be yourself when doing applications and interviews. If you are not yourself, you might end up in a law firm that does not suit you. The people that you are going to be working with want to know more about you. They want to know that you are the kind of person they would want to work with. They can only find this out if you are yourself!
